Bio
Cristina "La Tigresa" Lucio, a Los Angeles flamenco dancer, began her training of flamenco puro with Linda Andrade over fourteen years ago. She continued her studies in Seville, Spain with legendary gypsy flamenco dancers Carmelilla Montoya, Manuela Carrasco and Angelita Vargas. She has performed at many venues throughout LA that present traditional tablao style Flamenco shows, such as El Cid, The Fountain Theatre, Cafe Sevilla, etc. She also performs for the Los Angeles Music Center's Educational program. Cristina is also a founding member of the LA based group Subsuelo, which has been recognized by LA Weekly as "Best Party in East LA" and “A funky all-purpose rumpus room for late-generation bicultural Angelenos” by the LA Times.
Subsuelo is a global bass crew that features a live flamenco band along with DJs, that perform traditional cante jondo and experiments with genre-bending fusions, mixing the traditional with the new. Cristina often collaborates with musicians and dancers of many genres including hip hop, afro-Brazilian, afro-cuban, and jazz. She has toured with the show "Battle of the Dance" which led to a seasonal residency at the Flamingo Casino in Las Vegas. And she currently performs and tours internationally with the Grammy award winning artist Benise. She was a featured soloist in "Benise Strings of Passion" and an assistant choreographer plus featured soloist for Benise's new show "Fuego!"
